The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines Professional Coaching as: “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership”. The ICF philosophy is: “Coaches honour the client as the expert in his or her life and work and believes every client is creative, resourceful and whole”.

Using ICF’s Core Competencies and the Adler Approach to Coaching, the Professional Coach engages with the Client to facilitate change, assisting them along their journey using an active learning paradigm to move them from current state to a desired higher potential future state. This is done by:

  • Establishing a relationship of support and trust.

  • Communicating effectively through active listening, powerful questioning, and direct communication.

  • Facilitating learning by creating awareness of who they are considering their strengths, values and purpose, what they want to achieve, what is their current state, and what works and does not work for them.

  • Exploring choices and envisioning a desired future state.

  • Developing trust in self

  • Establishing and committing to actions

  • Identifying how they will hold themselves accountable and manage progress.

  • Recognizing and celebrating accomplishments.

Coaching facilitates growth and is meant to unleash potential enabling clients to perform at their peak. It focusses on the present and moving them to their desired future by establishing a partnership specific to their agenda where the client co-creates their own learning, solutions and actions. Coaching is not:

  • Therapy: The process of healing past hurts and resolving personal pain. The focus is “to fix” what is broken.

  • Consulting: Providing expertise in a given field to advance and inform a client on how to best solve a problem.

  • Training: The process whereby an expert instructs and teaches the trainee to develop new skills

  • Mentoring: An unequal relationship where the more experienced person imparts their knowledge, skills, and experience to the less experienced person

Align3P Consulting offers consulting, training, and mentoring services as well as professional coaching, and will differentiate and/or integrate these services as required to achieve the desired results for the individual and the organization.
